Rules Variations
Summer 2024 Season (details below pending an update, hybrid drop 2 and preplay system is in effect).
The following rule variants from the standard published FSPA rules will be used:
- League format: Qualifying Ladder (10-week season).
- Hybrid preplays will be used – Players have the option to submit preplays if they so choose. We will use the Drop2 Qualifying format where the two lowest week totals for each player will be dropped from your league points total. Players who are not present for a match will receive forfeits if they do not have any unused preplays available.
- The Roll Call Grouping system will be used where Roll Call will be taken at 7:30pm. Players who are not present and have not contacted the league SLO to announce their expected tardiness will be considered absent and excluded from that evening’s play. If you are running late – contact the SLO BEFORE 7:30pm!
- The “Absence” limit for the season will be 13 – This affords the ability to miss up to basically 3 weeks of play — on the 13th absence you will be dropped from the season. Please note, a forfeit or a preplay is counted as one absence. Your absence limit can be described as (total preplays + total forfeits = 12) (Do not exceed 12)
- The first tiebreaker for ties in adjusted point totals for playoff qualifications will be the player’s Total Points (points before “drop 2” rules)
Dues / Prizes / Expenses / Whatnot
The Mustang Sally Brewing league collects dues of $30 per player for each 10 week league season. We no longer collect “kitty” money, which comes from any free credits on machines (due to replay, match, etc) during league play. The operators pay for the finals.
This league pays CASH MONEY prizes to players who make the playoffs. The whole-league cash purse is approximately $30/player. This purse is divided across however many divisions we wind up having in the season, with all divisions getting the same percentage of the total. In each division, if there are 4 finalists, we pay 40%/30%/20%/10% of the division’s share of the purse to 1st/2nd/3rd/4th place finishers at the end of the playoffs. If there are 3 finalists, we pay 50%/30%/20% of the division’s share of the purse to 1st/2nd/3rd place finishers at the end of the playoffs. We may slightly deviate from these percentages to round payments to the nearest dollar.
It is important to the FSPA that we are transparent about how we handle players’ money. If you have any questions, please ask your league SLO or treasurer.
Inclement Weather Policy
League play will be canceled if inclement weather causes Northern Virginia Community College to be closed. If NVCC does not close during inclement weather, the league SLO may still declare “Liberal Leave” which provides for post-play of games by players who do not attend league. If Liberal Leave is declared, it will be announced here on the FSPA web site and on the FSPA mailing list.
